SAMPLE RECIPES

CIVIL WAR HOE CAKE

Ingredients

1 cup cornmeal

½ teaspoon salt

1 ½ tablespoons oil

1cup boiling water

Butter or jam.

Steps

  1. Put cornmeal and salt in a medium bowl. Stir together.
  2. Add the oil and half of the water. Stir well.
  3. Add the rest of the water. Work it in with your hands.
  4. Grease a cookie sheet.
  5. Divide the dough into thirds and shape it into 3 round, flat shapes on the cookie sheet.
  6. Bake in a 375 degree oven for about 30 minutes or until browned.
  7. Serve warm with butter or jam.

Serves 4.

APPLEADE

Ingredients

2 large apples

1 quart water

Sugar (to taste)

Steps

  1. Core and cut apples into slices. Do not peel. Place in a pan.
  2. Boil the water.
  3. Pour boiling water over apple slices.
  4. Let mixture sit for 30minutes.
  5. Strain well.
  6. Sweeten to taste with sugar.
  7. Chill.

Serves 6.
